The Heart of Georgia Altamaha Regional Commission (HOGARC), through the Department of Human Services, holds a regional contract to provide transportation services to older adults, people with disabilities, and low-income individuals by coordinating with local public, private, and human service transportation providers. Our services have proven to be safe, efficient, and cost-effective. These consumers have a right to mobility. They rely heavily on public and specialized transportation services to live independent and fulfilling lives. These services are essential for travelling to work and medical appointments, for running essential errands, and for taking advantage of social or cultural opportunities. At present, the DHS Region 9 Coordinated System is unable to provide many of the required trips due to funding constraints. Most of the system's funding is currently used to provide trips to and from center activities or day services.
DHS Region 9 provides current Coordinated Transportation Services to clients of the Area Agency on Aging (AAA), the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disability (DBHDD), and Georgia Rehabilitation programs.
Our focus is on ensuring consumers receive safe transportation.
Our system directly impacts the lives of our consumers. By providing transportation for consumers in rural areas, we help ensure they attend vital and mandated services. Our system brings additional hope to consumers by allowing them to enhance their job knowledge, work ethic, education, and independence.
Our Goals are:
- Increase self-sufficiency by improving the multi-agency planning process through better coordination, including internal coordination with DHS Divisions and other state agencies, thereby further impacting the system by reducing costs and increasing trips for DHS consumers and the disadvantaged population.
- Monitor all aspects of the program to ensure that every vehicle and driver associated with it follows all DHS policies and procedures, including defensive driving and other training requirements. The focus is on consumers receiving safe transportation.
HOGARC staff work with Pineland CSB, Resource Management Systems (RMS), and Wayne County Transit to deliver Regional Human Service Transportation across the HOGARC region. Pineland CSB provides transportation for the counties of Appling, Candler, Evans, Jeff Davis, Tattnall, and Toombs. Resource Management Systems provides transportation for the counties of Bleckley, Dodge, Emanuel, Johnson, Laurens, Montgomery, Telfair, Treutlen, Wheeler, and Wilcox. Wayne County Transit provides transportation for Wayne County.
