As a designated Economic Development District (EDD) under the Public Works and Economic Development Act of 1965, HOGARC’s Economic Development Department aims to help build a diverse, balanced, and progressive economy for the area. Its initiatives focus on assisting communities with economic and community development, asset-based development, social and physical infrastructure, and workforce development—efforts that create and sustain employment, strengthen the tax base, and foster safe, thriving communities.
The Regional Commission aids member governments and local economic agencies by providing demographic data requested by prospects; meeting with potential investors, mapping available properties and buildings; structuring deals; supporting the industrial site certification process; serving as a link between federal, state, and local resources; and helping with site selection and development for Heart of Georgia Altamaha communities.
The Regional Commission also functions as a designated Economic Development District and manages the Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS), as required by the U.S. Department of Commerce.
Economic Development Strategy (CEDS)
The CEDS is the strategic plan for economic development in the Heart of Georgia Altamaha District. It is revised every five years to satisfy the U.S. Economic Development Administration’s requirements for regional funding to support projects such as public infrastructure and economic adjustment planning. HOGARC is the designated staffing agency for this district, a role assigned by the Economic Development Administration.
